Doreen De Leonardis, PhD, is an Associate Vice President with more than 25 years of research experience in driver performance, highway safety, occupant protection, child passenger safety, aging, and cognitive performance. She has extensive experience in large-scale survey design and implementation, and qualitative and quantitative human factors research. De Leonardis manages resources to meet project demands and collaborates with experts from a variety of disciplines including statisticians, application developers, analysts, and data collectors to ensure that all client needs are met. She is an expert in developing and testing data collection instruments, analyzing data, developing technical reports, and preparing manuscripts for publication and presentations for professional conferences.
De Leonardis has a strong history of working cooperatively with law enforcement agencies, state departments of transportation, motor vehicle administrations, local entities, and other safety advocates to coordinate data collection efforts. She has served as project manager for the National Survey of the Use of Booster Seats (NSUBS) since its inception in 2006 through 2013 and as project director since 2013. De Leonardis was also the project director for 3 waves of a NHTSA survey to measure and produce national estimate of travel speeds for all road classes. In addition to large field data collection efforts, her experience includes running human factors laboratory studies, moderating focus groups, and conducting structured interviews. She is also certified Child Passenger Safety Technician who actively volunteers in the Montgomery County, MD, Seat Check program.
